I usually catch up once a day. I go through the topics list, looking at the last update on the far right. If you click on the time (I use middle-click, to open a new tab), you can bring up the thread at the last comment. Usually, that’s good enough; for more active threads, I may have to back up a page or 3.
I click on each topic until I get one that hasn’t been updated in a day. Then I can cycle through each tab, closing it when I’m caught up.
